I added another trial to the phase 2 list of mesenchymal stem cell trials. Based on this article, the Cleveland Clinic will soon be running a trial.

Pravastatin

I removed “Pravastatin (Nantes University Hospital – France)” from the phase 2 list because the study is complete (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00200655) and I can find no evidence of additional studies planned or ongoing.

According to the US MS Society’s clinical trials list, the trial was at least somewhat successful, with an 85% reduction in lesions at month 6 for the pravastatin group compared with a 44% reduction in the placebo group.

I removed TBC-4746 (Encysive Pharmaceuticals / Pfizer) from the phase 1 list because Encysive was bought out by Pfizer, Encysive’s website no longer exists and Pfizer’s website makes no mention of either TBC-4746 or any other pipeline candidates for MS.

Sildenafil Citrate

I removed Sildenafil Citrate (aka Viagra) from the phase 1 list because clinicaltrials.gov says the study was completed in 2008, and I can find no information on the results or future plans for more trials. It’s a shame.

BCX-4208

I removed BCX-4208 from the phase 1 list because there is no indication that they are testing on MS patients right now and it is being tested on people with gout, which suggests to me it won’t be helpful in MS, since low uric acid is seen in some MS patients, whereas gout is a problem with high uric acid levels. Gout is rarely seen in people with MS, at least that’s the word on the street.
